Though I don't love this arrangement of Bette Midler's The Rose, the compilation of the Gay Men's Chorus and LeAnn Rimes is simply stunning. I sincerely forgot just how amazing her voice is, thanks to the media's depiction of her over the past few months. She reminds gay youth everywhere that It Gets Better. There are not many country singers who will stand up for gay rights, for fear of harming their career. LeAnn doesn't seem to care about that - and just gets real. By far one of the best voices of this generation.

Newsflash: Yellowcard announces release date of new album!

Yellow-what some of you might be saying, but I have a very large soft spot for the altpunk band Yellowcard. I've eagerly awaited to hear about their new album release and finally, the wait is over! It's hard to believe that the incredible Paper Walls was released more than three years ago and we've had no new material of the Jacksonville, Florida native's band since. Yellowcard is going to lead the pack of altpunkrock bands for 2011 to be a year of substance, not just noise. In a recent posting on their site, they gave us these lyrics to the lead song The Sound of You and Me:

Someday, everything ends.

Finding a way back before we’re too late

the truth and the dream?
I’ve never been more ready to move on.

When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes has a set release date of March 21, 2011 (though still wondering when the single will come out!). They'll be touring the US with All Time Low. Looks like March is going to be a great month!

Oh Kelly Clarkson, how we've missed you. This is what you do best. Write a sappy song, express your emotions and get us to ball our eyes out. Recently at A Night For Hope, Kelly introduced her new song to the audience, You Still Won't Know What It's Like. It hasn't been confirmed but we strongly believe this will be on Kelly's upcoming new album. Kelly even gets a little teary eyed towards the end of the song. Though we've enjoyed 2010 as the year of dance-pop, I have a feeling next year will slow down a bit and remind us of music with substance. Expect to see some changes on Wonky Pop next year!

A little tidbit you may not know about me... I was actually a CCM kid throughout most of High School and into my college years. CCM artists really get railed on by critics in the secular side of music, which is truly unfortunate, because there are a lot of really talented singer/songwriters and bands within the genre of Contemporary Christian Music. TobyMac has always been my favorite, ever since his dc Talk days. He's one of the most well-known producers in Nashville and is the president of a very successful record label, Gotee Records. As with everything dc Talk did, they did it with great progression. And with that came one of the first rappers within the Christian Music community. Combine that with the angelic voice of Leigh Nash, formerly of the extremely successful Sixpence None the Richer, add a few jingle bells and ribbons and you've got a great unconventional Christmas jam. Though the interview is nearly 46 minutes in length, after listening you will be educated on everything from Kills' image to embracing your heartbreak through dance. Ok, so this is a REALLY weird new (ish) offering from Liz Phair. The album is hit and miss for me, though I do appreciate her experimentation. My favorite from Funstyle, Smoke, starts out like a silly skit put to bass but then changes it completely with a super catchy chorus. Bang! Bang! sounds like something Massive Attack wishes they recorded for their Mezzanine album. Definitely worth a listen.

Flashback Friday: Mike + Mechanics "The Living Years"

Though Activate My Heart will not be included on Natalia Kills Perfectionist album, it was released as a promotional single. It was the second single released after Zombie in April of this year. Upon first glance, it's pretty evident that the dark pop princess was involved with the production and direction of the unreleased video. The Robert Miles synth undertones make this song truly addictive. Hoping this song will be included as a bonus track on Kills album debut. Perhaps 2011 will be the year of Kills?

Our sources have neither confirmed nor denied the current rumors that her new single, allegedly titled Hold It Against Me, could be dropping as early as January 3rd. Rumor has it that not many know of the exact release date of Britney's new single and those that do had to sign legal documents disallowing them from sharing that information. Let's not forget that Lady Gaga will also be releasing her new studio album next year - which is complete - and no release date has yet been set. By far my favorite of all of the Housewives, Kandi is well known for her success with bands like TLC and Destiny's Child. A former member of the girl Hip Hop/R&B group Xscape, Kandi is a Grammy award winning songwriter. She also penned Pink's There You Go for her debut album. And now she's releasing her sophomore album of solo material next week, Kandi Koated. Though hard to compete with the current Top 40 dance filled tracks, Kandi's new material is truly soulful and showcases her strong voice. Her first single Leave U debuted at #89 on the Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip Hop song charts, not exactly a chart topping hit. In my personal opinion, Leroy Jones is the strongest song on the album - Kandi really lets go and shows her vulnerable side. Kandi Koated may not go on to be a record breaking album, but it's definitely a solid effort from an incredibly talented singer/songwriter. Now if only the other Housewives would wake up and realize what talent really is - and those who lack it, really need to shut up! Kandi is currently on tour with Fantasia.

That really makes me giggle. It's sure to give anyone another reason to fall in love with Natalia and a new reason to dance. I feel as though this is Kills' U Should Know Better public service announcement. This is the second version we've heard of Hot Mess. We're not surprised Kills had this one redone - she is after all, a Perfectionist. I love love love that she sings a few lines from another one of my favorite Kills' song, Free. (i look fresh in a potato sack!)

With their first album, Kidneythieves broke onto the alternative rock scene and quickly asserted themselves as the antithesis of the then-popular nu metal trend. Fans of dark electro, tough ladies and awesome vocals should be sure to check them out, this is the kind of edgy swagger rock that mainstream post-punk pop-influenced dance rock artists wish they could be doing (*ahem* The Killers).

Christmas is definitely one of my favorite holidays. However, I'm just not that into the typical & standard Christmas songs. How many different artists can sing Oh Holy Night before it will drive me to Oh Holy Shit! Another one?! I've got a lot more respect for those artists putting out original material for the Holiday season. It prevents me from stabbing my eyes out with a candy cane. (Not that I could ever really cause self-harm but you get the point.) At any rate, Coldplay has released a new single entitled Christmas Lights. It's warm, it's soft and it's even a little cheesy - but that's ok - I was born in Wisconsin and I like cheese. Take a look/listen at the video below! Happy Chanukah!

Now here's something we don't hear very often. The Ting Tings recently did an acoustic version of their latest single Hands. As they've explained to their audience many times, they just don't get slow often. The incredibly rhythmic duo has not yet given us a release date on their new material for Kunst, their upcoming sophomore album. With Hands not really rising on the charts (debuted at 29 in the UK), perhaps the British duo are waiting to drop another smash hit comparable to their catchy That's Not My Name. Name ring a bell? No? Oh come on... Patrick Stump! The former lead singer to the ever so popular Fall Out Boy, Stump has two versions of his first single Spotlight, and he wants his fans to choose which one to release. His Oh Nostalgia version is in true Fall Out Boy form (and to me, more friendly for radio play & Wonky Pop's vote). I'm assuming New Regrets is the direction Stump has headed with his first solo project- a bit more electronic, more dance-driven. You know, more of a Postal Service meets Kesha kinda sound. I'd go for the New Regrets version myself, but it seems like it needs a bit more umpf. (Maybe crank up that bass a bit!) Which version do you prefer? Vote here and help Stump decide. The scenes and concept behind the video for this killer hit is the brainchild of Natalia Kills herself. Always keen to explore some of the demons that may drive/distract the perfectionist within us all: "Love, Sex, Control, Vanity," - are all re-occuring themes Natalia covers throughout 'Perfectionist'. Dutch producer Don Diablo has paired up with Canadian Wonky Pop favorite Dragonette for his new track Animale. Diablo's weird electro fits Dragonette's sound perfectly. Martina's vocals are typically top notch, the lyrics are jungle-centric and the production is suitably bleepy. In short, there is nothing about this track that doesn't rock. Enjoy!

As if injected by Robyn's bouncy-beats-serum and Natalia Kills love-misfortunes-poison, Frankmusik unleashes his latest track, The Fear Inside, with heavy 80's synths and the occasional robotic vocals. Though slightly darker than his previous work, Vincent Frank stays true to his electropop form and gives us another great track. The collective sound is sure to gain him some serious crossover buzz and maybe even land on the Hot 100 here in the States (hell, we loved his recent collaboration with Far East Movement). And dare I say, but affter a few spins, I started to hear a similar rhythmic sound to Enrique's latest, Tonight and the siren-driven intro of I Like It. Our ears are definitely eager to hear just how else FM has put a twist on his sound.

I cannot thank Sweden enough for bringing Tove Styrke into the music world. The second runner up in Swedish Idol 2009, 18 year old rising star Tove recently released her debut self titled album. Her first single Million Pieces didn't top the charts as hoped by Sony Music however, her second single White Light Moment is sure to gain her some attention. The 80's-dance-infused track will have you bouncing off the walls, so try to contain yourself if you're still at work. Of course the States are being deprived of such great music once again so our only source to get her album is via Amazon or Legalsounds. Boy Band Week: Westlife "Flying Without Wings"

It's National Boy Band Week at Wonky Pop and we're kicking it off across the Atlantic with Westlife from the Ireland. Founded in 1998, the band originally consisted of Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Shane Filan and Brian McFadden (departed from the band in 2004). The group is the only act in British & Ireland's history to have their first seven singles go straight to number 1. They've sold more than 44 million records worldwide and their eleventh studio album (yes, eleventh!) Gravity was released today in the UK (US tomorrow). Flying Without Wings is one of those tearjerker ballads that you just have to play over and over again, all the while hoping that one of these boys will serenade you someday. Fortunatley, they've all aged like a fine wine (with the exception of Brian). Check out their first single Safe from Gravity and their incredible cover of Hoobastank's The Reason below.

This is exactly what was missing from last night's AMA's. Pure raw talent. Greyson Chance is only 12 years old and his voice will blow your mind. I am amazed by the strength and power behind his vocals, and he risks it all time and time again by covering some pretty heavy hitters. His recent performance at Joe's Pub in NYC has definitely raised some eyebrows. Let's hope Greyson gets to the AMA's next year so we have something that won't hurt our ears. If power ballads like these keep coming out, I'm going to have to wear one all the time to prevent me from drowning in my own tears (I'm really not a sad case, just an emotional person at heart). Despite a recent divorce and failed album, Christina's still got it. She blows our minds once again with her vocals on Bound To You, from her upcoming acting debut in Burlesque. I think I might just have to see this one, even if the plot looks predictable.

I was recently introduced to Tinchy Stryder by a close friend and I was hesitant to give his album Third Strike a listen. And I am so glad I gave him a chance! Damn this album is good (and that's an understatement). It's not your typical hip hop/rap album by any means. With tracks featuring Alexis Jordan, Swedish singer Eric Turner, Taio Cruz and Alicia Keys' occasional fill in vocalist Bridget Kelly, Tinchy will have you begging him to release this album in the States (of course it's currently only available as an import thru Amazon). The video for the title track Take Over the World ft. Bridget Kelly has a similar power to that of Empire State of Mind, with a driving beat guiding Tincy's rap and Bridget's powerful vocals on the chorus. Could this be the UK's equivalent of the Jay-Z/Alicia Keys team?

Swedish futurepop band Covenant have dropped a new single to precede their upcoming album release Modern Ruin. Lightbringer features fellow Swedish Industrialites Necro Facility on the vocodered verse vocals. I'm really loving this song, it sounds like retro Italian pop mixed with an aggro-electro verse vocal. The contrast is great and the chorus is pretty much heaven. Sweden makes the best music!

I haven't quite jumped on the Nicki Minaj bandwagon. In fact, I've been pretty resistant. Maybe I'm still disappointed that no one was feeling Nicki when Christina featured her on Wohoo. Or maybe I'm still upset over her sampling Annie Lennox in Your Love. Whatever the reasons, I am lifting the band on this native Queens, NY rapper and giving her a ~~second~~ third chance. I don't believe in posting music I don't like (although I will admit sometimes it is necessary to mock/point out a really bad song) and Fly is definitely not a bad song. Featuring who's that chick Rihanna, Fly is a song about the empowerment of women. According to Nicki, it speaks about flying, soaring high in the face of every single adversity that comes your way. I am pleasantly surprised by Nicki's Pink Friday album and even becoming a fan. Well, my girl Missy ain't around so I got no choice! What do you think of Fly?

Someone Like You is the new song said to be on her upcoming sophomore album 21. This is exactly what was lacking from Brandon Flowers Flamingo. Intensity, depth and dance. There was way too much country-bumpkin on that album. Thank God Gravitonas deliver just what was missing with Religious, a slowly awakening electronica dance jam with a gospel flare. Sweden has once again introduced us to greatness - and maybe when Universal Music releases their first US album in January, they'll get the recognition they so deserve. They've released two amazing EP's already (The Hypnosis & The Coliseum) and both are deserving to be in your music collection. Just so you understand, if I could scream through this posting just how much I love these two EP's, your monitor would break and I'd be left in a puddle of tears. Yeah, it's just that good. Watch the powerfully-odd video for Religious and listen to Not Gonna Be Dancing below.

I am speechless by the overwhelming talent of 16 year old Daniel & 13 year old Nadine Carasco, brother sister duo from the UK. To hear Jessie J sing the original version of Price Tag live already had drowning in my own drool, and now this? Wow. I am quite impressed with the production and Nadine's voice. Though not comparable to Jessie J, Nadine has a voice meant to win pop lovers everywhere over - it's sweet, fresh and playful. There are very few albums I can listen to on repeat, for hours on end and not get tired of it. Adele's debut album 19 is the shoe that fits. With a distinct voice and sound, I'm expecting Adele to give us even more greatness on her sophomore album 21. Her first single Rolling In the Dark is a dark bluesy gospel disco tune, which I suspect will fair well on the charts in the UK but may struggle to break through all of the dance tracks in the US Hot 100. Even still, we're bound to see some great things for Adele's future, maybe even a US Grammy win in 2012? Rolling In the Dark debuted today on AC Radio and she'll be making a live performance on Ellen on December 3rd. 21 will be dropping on January 24th in the UK and February 22nd in the US in 2011. Why make us wait an entire month UK? Close your office door (if you have one) and crank this baby up!

Already being pushed for radioplay this week, Michael Jackson's first single Hold My Hand from his new album Michael, features Akon. The song seems to be in classic MJ ballad fashion, slightly more upbeat and slightly ruined thanks to Akon's constant chatter and banter. It honestly reminds me of Free Willy's Will You Be There, just updated. This has us missing the old Michael Jackson and wishing Sony Music would just let MJ rest in peace. As many fans and his own family members have stated, MJ was a perfectionist, and this just ain't perfect. But his fans are crazy and though I don't think this song is worthy of hitting the Top 10, his fans may wail if it doesn't. What do you think of the new MJ singles?

Once Again, America Deprived of Greatness

Why can't the States wise up and realize Kylie has something more to offer us than Locomotion? I know the record companies are trying to play it safe, but who the hell made the decision to replace Kylie on Taio Cruz's Higher with Travie McCoy? First of all, Travie is a grown man... shouldn't you go by TRAVIS? Secondly, Kylie is obviously the better choice. There's a reason Katy Perry wrote this song about him (allegedly)... this single is going to circle the drain. Island Records needs to wise up and keep Kylie on the US and UK versions. Which do you prefer?

I know what you're thinking... Wonky Pop should be called Rihanna Pop. I may have gone a bit overboard this week with the RiRi postings, and possible even overdosed a little. And unless you're headless, you really shouldn't mind all of those postings - cause she's the freakin' cats meow right now - Taylor who? I know some of you will be fist pumping from the ground up tonight, ripping it up all weekend long... and then there are some of you that will be heading home tonight after work (if you're not already there) and fallin' asleep on the sofa around 830, with a pop tart in your mouth. This song is for the latter of the people (though some of you party animals might find this to be a good disco nap song). Psychic Powers will put you in a trippy mood, forgetting all of the weeks frustrations and just be. Brighter will have you wishing you were laying on the hood of your vista cruiser and staring up at the sky. It's the perfect temperature for this time of the year.

Review: Rihanna "Loud"

Let's be frank. A lot of albums have come out this year. If I had to choose three mainstream albums I'd been eagerly waiting to drop- Katy Perry, Robyn and Rihanna would take the cake. This has been the year of the female pop star. If you've been an avid reader of Wonky Pop, you'd already know that. What I love most about these three pop wonders is that they are not alike in style, form or fashion. No need to compare one another - they stand their own ground. And Rihanna's take on pop music on her new album is freaking fantastic!

There's obviously something very appealing about the music that comes from a Rihanna album. She recently scored her third #1 hit single on the Billboard Hot 100 with What's My Name (ft. Drake), making her the first artist to accomplish such a feat in a single year (not even Lady Gaga has done this). No other artist has accomplished since 2008...and it was Rihanna who scored the trifecta with Take a Bow, Disturbia and on T.I.'s Live Your Life (by the way, that makes 8 total #1s!). To anyone doubting Rihanna's talent, you must be headless.

The initial reviews and remarks for Loud were that it would be a return to the positive, upbeat side of Rihanna. Only Girl In the World and the leaked Who's That Chick were most certainly a return to the dance, carefree side of Rihanna that we all have come to love. However, digging deeper into the album we find a more vulnerable RiRi, delving into painful relationships of the past.

S&M (Ester Dean) has Rihanna sharing her dirtier side with us, by letting us know that chains and whips excite her. This lends itself for another bad ass video like Disturbia. Cheers (Drink To That) has reggae undertones and a raise your glass kinda buzz, bound to be the status updates of her fans on Facebook (including this one come Friday). And I love that Avril Lavigne is sampled on the song - could she be how Rihanna got inspiration for brightly colored hair? Doubtful. The sound becomes progressively slower as the Enya-esque Fading hits our ears and Rihanna says goodbye to a former lover. California King Bed has Rihanna sending chills down our spins with her honest lyrics about her failing relationship. It's the cryyoureyesout kinda song, that you know you should stop listening to, but you can't stop hitting replay. Definitely one of my favorites on the album - just hoping she can pull this one off live. Man Down, is a ska-reggae infused track about killing a man, in which Rihanna lets us really hear her Barbadian sound. Raining Men featuring Nicki Minaj has a comfortably familiar sound, a blend of Beyonce and Keri Hilson- which only makes sense being that RiRi is Jay Z's little nugget. The pace of the album starts to rev up a little with the spacey-beat-ballad Complicated, finding Rihanna reflecting on painful relationships of the past, and showing us know that she can belt out a few notes (my second favorite). She then slow rides it with Skin, a saucy sexy ballad, informing us she likes it rough. Rounding off the album is her upcoming third single Love the Way You Lie (Pt.2), featuring Eminem, having Rihanna taking the lead this time on the verses and chorus.

The anticipation I had for this album was well worth it - and well worth the wait. With a solid album like this, Rihanna may very well break her own record again and hit her fourth #1 single before the year comes to a close. She gives us dance tracks, vulnerable ballads and some songs to play with our imagination. The only drawback I have to the album is Who's That Chick was left off of it - maybe on the re-release? Loud will be dropping in the UK on the 15th and the 16th in the States (though there may be an early digital release date due to recent leaks across the internet). Cheers to the freakin' weekend, drink to that!

Listen: Roll Deep ft. Eva Simons "What Do They Know"

Our Flavor of the Month has been quite the busy bee and she's lended her vocals for Roll Deep's What Do I Know. Once upon a time (dating back to 2002) in London, Roll Deep's family members included the great Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Stryder, both of whom have gone onto successful solo careers. The single remaining original member of nine emcees, Wiley, is the creator of the music genre Grime (think Hip Hop meets Garage Band House?) and continues to be a part of Roll Deep's on-going success. Eva Simons' delicious voice has me bangin' this one out in my car, again and again. Winner Stays On was released on the 8th but sadly is only seeing a US hard copy release date on the 16th. Don't fret - this one is bound to end up on Legalsounds.com in the next day or so.

Other highlights from the album include their #1 UK hits Green Light and Good Times and the glamourous Alesha Dixon feature on Take Control. For fans of Calvin Harris, Dizzee Rascal and Eva Simons. Thanks to Eva Simons Daily for the tip!

This girl can really do no wrong. And she deserves to have all of us Raising Our Glasses and celebrate the incredible artist that we've come to know and love as P!nk- cause she's Fuckin' Perfect! Though the song was cut from her Funhouse album, Whataya Want From Me has been with her on tour and released by none other than Adam Lambert. Though Lambert's version is good, nothing compares to Pink's voice. Listen to both versions below, along with another new song from her upcoming Greatest Hits...So Far!!! album Heartbreak Down.

This is like a delicious sugary cookie, smothered in rich icing and contains just the right amount of flavor to satisfy your hunger. You'll find yourself staring at the cookie and drooling and then getting pissed off because, well, last time I checked, Sweden isn't in the States. Once again, America is being deprived of such great artists and this cookie is for display only. Viktorious, formerly of Sugarplum Fairy, has released his first single via Sony Music (Sweden) titled When We Were 10. The song is playful, carefree and fun. It's bound to put you into a sugary coma, cause it will have you dancing on repeat for hours. Take a listen below. Oh, and as a bonus, check out a sneak peak of his album that will be dropping (in Sweden) in 2011. Hopefully Sony will wise up and give Americans a taste of their cookies!

You will DEFINITELY not have socks. What's more important then finding great music, is that this music is free.

Pinup Saints at first might seem like your average pop band, but they have something else that other up-and-comings don't. Maybe you can figure out what's so special.
