Who Does It Better? Ciara or J. Lewis?

After several push backs, Ciara's fourth studio album Basic Instinct will be released on November 2nd (according to her website... though Amazon is showing a December 14th release date).  A new song has leaked and it struck me as quite familiar... because I heard it first by a man named J.Lewis.  Shut 'Em Up is a rhythmic driven song for Ciara to finally tell her haters out there to piss off.  Lyric highlights include:
They say I’m Hollywood, They think that I’m too good, Just handling my business, Where I live don’t make a difference.
When I make my booty pop, I Shut Em Up
This song hasn't been confirmed to be on her upcoming album - nor can you really find what her entire track listing will be.  J.Lewis must have sold the rights to Ciara, or at the very least, she's done a demo track of it.  It's still stands to be a mystery (hence the setbacks on the release date I'm sure).  I've always had a place in my heart for Ciara.  She's got fierce attitude, an incredible body (thanks to her near perfect dance moves) and always seems to put out some good stuff.  Though, I gotta say, I love the J. Lewis version better.  Which do you prefer?

Monday's Mellow Song of the Day

You may be sitting at your desk right now and wishing you hadn't tipped back so many damn bottomless mimosas yesterday at brunch.  Right now, you may be feeling like a polka band won't stop playing around in your head, as if they are trying to get outta your skull.  I figured it'd be wise to take things down a few notches from the dance & electronic songs that have been flooding Wonky Pop these days and start Monday off on a softer note.  Though my head is okay, I know I'll be throwing back water today like it's my job.

Featured in the first episode of this seasons Grey's Anatomy (during the wedding ceremony), Amy Stroup's Backed Into the Corner is a chilled out, perfect hangover healing song.  Besides acting as an aspirin alternative, it's also a beautifully written song.

Sunday Funday Download: Mashup!

It's Sunday Funday and what a better way to celebrate than with a great mashup of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Heads Will Roll and Far East Movement's Like A G6 (ft. The Cataracs & Dev).  Jumping on the “college kids making mashups who are often called a band even though they’re just two guys with laptops” trend (google: Hood Internet, Super Mash Bros., White Panda, Ludachrist) comes a couple of guys from Princeton calling themselves The MashMaticians, who strike gold with a mashup that brings two scenes from opposite coasts together — New York indie-electro fused with LA Koreatown cool. Represent!

Our Girl Does It So Well

Not only can Carmen Reece do some incredible covers of today's top pop artists, she can do some pretty damn amazing acoustic versions of her own stuff.  She never ceases to amaze me.  Carmen has been busy at work and already released a 10 track album on iTunes with her covers.  The track list includes:
1- Mine - Taylor Swift
2- Don't Ever Leave Me - Carmen Reece
3- Be The One - Carmen Reece
4- Right Here - Carmen Reece
5- Runnin' - Carmen Reece
6- DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love - Usher
7- Raindrop - Carmen Reece
8- U Smile - Justin Bieber
9- Only Girl (In the World) - Rihanna
10- Just the Way You Are - Bruno Mars

I must say, I do love her pink nail polish in her YouTube videos.  Wonky Pop will never stop showing love for this incredible artist.  Buy her Love In Stereo here and her Unplugged covers/originals here!

PS, since we missed getting you one in September when CR was our Flavor of the Month, here's a Wallpaper for ya! Download it here. (You can preview it after the jump!)

You Can Take the Boy Out of the Country but...

Let's face it.  I have been and always will be, a small town boy from Minnesota.  Though I may live in San Francisco now, I can't get forget my upbringing.  And to be honest, I hope I never do.  I'm thankful for my large palette for musical flavors.  I sometimes wish I shared the same for food (though that could be dangerous).  Which is why with every heaping of pop, there's gotta be a little bit of country.

Sara Evans is getting ready to release her new album sometime next year and I'm in love with her first single A Little Bit Stronger.  She's just released the video - simply done, but I could do without the short "web cam" clips.  I can't get over the uniqueness of her voice for a country singer - if she wanted to, she could be a strong pop ballad singer, next to the likes of Celine Dion and (old school) Mariah Carey.  If you haven't heard her rendition of Westlife's No Place That Far, then you're definitely sitting there thinking I'm nuts for even making such a statement.  I mean hell, if Shania Twain can do it, so could Sara!

Forget Halloween, Let's Fast Forward to Christmas!

It's October 1st and you know what that means: retail stores will be playing their holiday commercials on TV, window displays will be filled with snowflakes, candy canes and fat Santas and soon enough, Christmas will be here.  It is only 84 days away til that cheery fat ass will climb down people's chimneys and drop off his goodies.  Man does that ever sound perverted... anyway, I digress.

Though I don't think anything will ever compare to her first Christmas album (I happen to play it every Christmas season with great pride), Mariah Carey is trying to beat her own record of the 3rd biggest selling Christmas album with an entirely new one.  The first song to leak is the cheerleading pop anthem Oh Santa.  It's no All I Want For Christmas Is You but it is a catchy tune for the holidays.  I'm still waiting for Mariah to come back to the days when she was known for her incredible voice and give us some of her power ballads (Hero anyone?).  Hopefully, we will find some of that on her upcoming Christmas album.

October's Flavor of the Month

Notice anything different today?  Well ya should cause it's October 1st!  I'm sure by now, many of you have seen this cute, headphone wearing guy, making sounds and noises with his mouth, creating covers of some of the hottest songs currently on the radio.  Well, we're so excited to share with all of you that Mike Tompkins, the famous beat boxing, a capella, facial expression goofball, is our Flavor of the Month for October!  Mike is just what's missing from today's pop music - a fresh male sound.  We've been saying for awhile now that the male pop scene is really lacking a solid musician- one who has major passion for their music and talent to boot.  Mike is a huge heaping of passion with an extreme amount of skill.  The guy's definitely got it!

Mike was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to chat with Wonky Pop a couple weeks ago.  Watch for our Q&A (aka Diva Dish) with Mike to be posted next week!  You'll learn a lot about this talented rising pop star.  We've also got a Free Download coming at ya soon!  Follow us on Twitter and Facebook so you don't miss out!

We got a special gift for you big MT lovers - two free wallpaper downloads.  Check them out below!
