Diva Dish: Natalia Kills

Having spoken to Natalia Kills for nearly an hour, I've come to the conclusion that she is one of the most insightful artists of today.  Though not yet a household name, mark my words, come next spring, she will be.  With a intense drive to create the best music to our ears, Kills is passionate about what she does.  She sees her music before she even hears it.  Though the interview is nearly 46 minutes in length, after listening you will be educated on everything from Kills' image to embracing your heartbreak through dance.  Highlights of the interview include getting a glimpse of how Kills' visualizes her music, how her sound has evolved from Verbalicious a popsicle flavored like all of her ex lovers and the worldwide release of her Cherrytree Records debut album Perfectionist.  Take a listen below.  (Note: I tried to cut down this interview, but everything Kills' said was too good to cut.)

Let's Smoke All Night!

Ok, so this is a REALLY weird new (ish) offering from Liz Phair. The album is hit and miss for me, though I do appreciate her experimentation. My favorite from Funstyle, Smoke, starts out like a silly skit put to bass but then changes it completely with a super catchy chorus. Bang! Bang! sounds like something Massive Attack wishes they recorded for their Mezzanine album. Definitely worth a listen.

Also, check out this underrated track from her oft maligned (but VERY worthwhile) self titled album from the days of yore:

21 Days of (non-traditional) Christmas!

As I've previously mentioned, I like funkified Christmas music.  And those that challenge traditional Christmas hymns and the classics are winners in my book.  Crystal Theory's Chillout Christmas album is the combination of Esthero & Mandalay (now I am gonna have to pull their album out!), a true vibe to put you into a candy cane trance.  Listen to White Christmas below.

Watch: The Ting Tings "Hands" - acoustic mix

Now here's something we don't hear very often.  The Ting Tings recently did an acoustic version of their latest single Hands.  As they've explained to their audience many times, they just don't get slow often.  The incredibly rhythmic duo has not yet given us a release date on their new material for Kunst, their upcoming sophomore album.  With Hands not really rising on the charts (debuted at 29 in the UK), perhaps the British duo are waiting to drop another smash hit comparable to their catchy That's Not My Name.  Check out the beautiful acoustic version below.

Thanks to Rocky & Mark for letting me know about this!

NBBW: *NYSNC FREE DOWNLOAD

This band requires no introduction - because unless you're headless, you know Justin Timberlake the band formerly known as *NSYNC.  Though they've all moved onto their separate careers and lives, I know I'm not alone in thinking it's time for a reunion tour.  I think it could possibly be the best selling reunion tour in history.  What say you?

Wonky Pop Declares National Boy Band Week!

With so many lack-luster performances last night at the AMA's, we were beginning to think music has lost its purpose and meaning.  Then the Backstreet Boys and New Kids On the Block had us reliving our teen days with their medley performance (def had us missing N'Sync).  Though not their best performance, it did inspire us to declare Wonky Pop's National Boy Band week!  With that said, expect at least one daily boy band posting per day for the next 7 days!  Leave your comments below for bands & songs you wanna see make the cut!

Introducing: Viktorious

This is like a delicious sugary cookie, smothered in rich icing and contains just the right amount of flavor to satisfy your hunger.  You'll find yourself staring at the cookie and drooling and then getting pissed off because, well, last time I checked, Sweden isn't in the States.  Once again, America is being deprived of such great artists and this cookie is for display only.  Viktorious, formerly of Sugarplum Fairy, has released his first single via Sony Music (Sweden) titled When We Were 10.  The song is playful, carefree and fun.  It's bound to put you into a sugary coma, cause it will have you dancing on repeat for hours.  Take a listen below.  Oh, and as a bonus, check out a sneak peak of his album that will be dropping (in Sweden) in 2011.  Hopefully Sony will wise up and give Americans a taste of their cookies!

PS -- you can buy this single via Legalsounds.com for 9 CENTS!
PPS-- if anyone can find his video playable in the states, please email us  - of course it's blocked here!

Remix: Taio Cruz ft. Kylie Minogue "Higher"

Two of our favorite worlds have just collided: Taio Cruz has remixed his latest single by bringing in the amazingly talented Kylie Minogue!  Can you say hot dance song (and smart move on Taio's part)?  Higher is sure to get your feet stomping and ready for the weekend.  Their voices mix well together and this is sure to be a hit!  Being that Taio has already had much success in the US market, hopefully this collaboration will help Americans finally realize that Kylie is incredible.  If you haven't picked up her Aphrodite album yet, get it - definitely one of the best of 2010.

Robyn Body Talk Pt. 3 Coming in November!

Wonky Pop's favorite lady of the year has announced the release date for her final installment (aka Pt. 3) for Body Talk - November 29th!  The complete Body Talk album will combine five songs from both Pt. 1 and Pt. 2, along with five other new tracks.  Robyn announced that her first single will be the orchestra infused Indestructible.  Though rumor has it, just as she did for Hang With Me, Indestructible will receive a new sound treatment, said to be a pulsating full-power version.  The single is slated for a November 22nd release date.

Check out Robyn's recent appearance on the Swedish TV show Senkveld and the acoustic version of Indestructible below.

Review: Florence + the Machine

Florence + the Machine (named for British singer Florence Welch and her backing band) have achieved great success in the U.K. with the release of the album Lungs in July of 2009. It seems that the States are a bit behind when it came to discovering this great talent. She's only recently gained noteriety in the States with her single Dog Days are Over. She recently performed this song on the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and gave a stellar performance looking like a fairy goddess all the while (check it out below).

Florence has a voice that is well beyond her 24 years, invoking the vocal sounds of Chrissie Hynde and Beth Orton while creating dramatic songs that would please fans of Kate Bush. She has the sort of vocal prowess that makes you stop and listen. The first U.K. single to be released off of Lungs was the controversial, yet inherently catchy song Kiss with a Fist. The song itself is a melding of pop/punk/indie music with Florence's own clever twist. Upon first hearing this song, I could have sworn it was Kate Nash. With lyrics like A kick to the teeth is good for some / a kiss with a fist is better than none, she had the critics wondering if this was a song condoning domestic abuse. She later clarified that the song is actually all figurative. To be honest, this song feels a bit out of place because it varies quite drastically with the style of the other tracks.

The entire album is fantastic but some of my favorite tracks are Drumming, Howl, and of course Dog Days are Over. With some of her music being used for television shows and most recently the song Heavy in Your Arms appearing on the Twilight: Eclipse soundtrack, we should expect more great things to come for Florence + the Machine. She already has her second album slated for 2011.
