Damn, I nearly forgot how good she is!

Though I don't love this arrangement of Bette Midler's The Rose, the compilation of the Gay Men's Chorus and LeAnn Rimes is simply stunning.  I sincerely forgot just how amazing her voice is, thanks to the media's depiction of her over the past few months.  She reminds gay youth everywhere that It Gets Better.  There are not many country singers who will stand up for gay rights, for fear of harming their career.  LeAnn doesn't seem to care about that - and just gets real.  By far one of the best voices of this generation.

Download: Girl Talk "This Is the Remix"

You gotta be a genius to create mashups, there is no way around that.  To be able to pull 373 songs into one cohesive 71 minute album, blows my mind.  That's just what Girl Talk has done on his fourth LP, All Day.  And the track This Is the Remix will have you reminiscing about the 90s while enjoying the the sounds of today.  I got pretty giddy when Cecilia began to ring through.  Truly a great mashup!  Download the All Day album here for free!

Unconventional Christmas: The Hives vs. Cyndi Lauper

This song warms my little heart like a stiff drink.  It reminds me of the good drunk times with my family on Christmas Eve, watching Christmas classics such as Scrooged, Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story.  I'm going to let the lyrics explain this one.  Tyler, this one's for you!  Merry (Uncoventional) Christmas everyone!

The Hives
I bought no gifts this year
And I slept with your sister
I know I should have thought twice before I kissed her
But with the year we had last
And the dress that she wore
I just went along for the ride
And I came back for more
And I’m sorry, baby

Cyndi Lauper
(That’s all okay honey cause see)

I bought no tree this year
And I slept with your brother
I wrecked your Daddy’s car
And went down on your Mother
I set your record collection on fire
And said I never knew (anekatips lyrics)
Felt kind of bad about that
And I know you did too

So whatever you say, it’s all fine by me
Who the f@#k anyway wants a Christmas tree
Duet : Cyndi Lauper and The Hives
Cause the snow keeps on fallin
Even though we were bad
It’ll cover the filth, we should both just be glad
And spend this Christmas together

The Hives
I married you last year
Bet you thought I was sober, right?
But I was drunk as a skunk and I made a mistake
This could all have been over

Cyndi Lauper
Ah honey please don’t excuse your behaviour
Cause I hired a hitman and changed your will
Cyndi Lauper and The Hives
It’s now all in my favour
So whatever you say, it’s all fine by me
Who the f@#k anyway wants a Christmas tree
Cause the snow keeps on fallin
Even though we were bad
It’ll cover the filth, we should both just be glad

Duet : Cyndi Lauper and The Hives
And spend-spend-spend this Christ-Christmas together
And spend-spend-spend this Christ-Christmas together
And spend-spend-spend this Christ-Christmas together
And spend-spend-spend this Christ-Christmas together

The Hives
Holding on without any reason
Cause something’s strong (something’s strong)
This holiday season (this holiday season)

Duet : Cyndi Lauper and The Hives
So whatever you say, it’s all fine by me
And who the f@#k anyway wants a Christmas tree
Cause the snow keeps on fallin
Even though we were bad
It’ll cover the filth, we should both just be glad

And spend-spend-spend this Christmas together
(repeat)
Come on!

Newsflash: Yellowcard announces release date of new album!

Yellow-what some of you might be saying, but I have a very large soft spot for the altpunk band Yellowcard.  I've eagerly awaited to hear about their new album release and finally, the wait is over!  It's hard to believe that the incredible Paper Walls was released more than three years ago and we've had no new material of the Jacksonville, Florida native's band since.  Yellowcard is going to lead the pack of altpunkrock bands for 2011 to be a year of substance, not just noise.  In a recent posting on their site, they gave us these lyrics to the lead song The Sound of You and Me:
Someday, everything ends.
Can we begin
Finding a way back before we’re too late
And lost in between
the truth and the dream?
I’ve never been more ready to move on.

When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes has a set release date of March 21, 2011 (though still wondering when the single will come out!). They'll be touring the US with All Time Low.  Looks like March is going to be a great month!

Though the sound quality is quite shit, take a listen to For You and Your Denial below.

Since You've Been Gone...We've Missed You!

Oh Kelly Clarkson, how we've missed you.  This is what you do best.  Write a sappy song, express your emotions and get us to ball our eyes out.  Recently at A Night For Hope, Kelly introduced her new song to the audience, You Still Won't Know What It's Like.  It hasn't been confirmed but we strongly believe this will be on Kelly's upcoming new album.  Kelly even gets a little teary eyed towards the end of the song.  Though we've enjoyed 2010 as the year of dance-pop, I have a feeling next year will slow down a bit and remind us of music with substance.  Expect to see some changes on Wonky Pop next year!

You haven't seen the ghost that I've seen
You haven't lived enough to know what I mean

Thanks Mark B. for the tip!

Watch: Ricky Martin "Lo Mejor De Mi Vida Eres Tu"

Ricky Martin still has it.  Lovin' this live performance of his newest single The Best Thing About Me Is You.  We're excited about his next studio album, dropping on February 1, 2011!  Are you?

Cover: Gavin Beach does Robyn

There is nothing like taking a popular dance song and stripping away all of the bits to the heart of it all.  If you've ever really listened to Robyn's Dancing On My Own, you would hear just how dark and depressing the lyrics truly are.  There is serious heartbreak happening here.  Reflection.  Rejection.  With all of her pop-dance songs, Robyn is a lot more vulnerable than people are lead to believe.  Gavin Beach and Jamie Cleaton have revealed the true meaning of this song.  How this guy hasn't become more popular is beyond me.  There's real talent here.

Preview: Avril Lavigne "What the Hell"

Though you gotta wait until January 7th of next year for Avril Lavigne's latest new single to be available, preview a short clip of What the Hell here.  Nothing new here - same Avril style - upbeat, angry, poppy.  It's good to see Avril is back.

Watch: Natalia Kills behind the scenes "Mirrors"

Get inside the head of Natalia Kills with this great minute and a half clip of the behind the scene footage from her hot single Mirrors.

Unconventional Christmas: Katelyn Clampett "I'll Be Home For Christmas"

We often see the funny and the upbeat, lyrically catchy side of this girl, but we haven't heard a lot of the softer side to her.  Katelyn Clampett has taken one of the most popular holiday songs, stripped it down and unwrapped it to us all as an early Christmas present.  It's a true showcase of her beautiful voice.  Merry (early) Christmas everyone!

Unconventional Christmas: Toby Mac "Christmas This Year" ft. Leigh Nash

A little tidbit you may not know about me... I was actually a CCM kid throughout most of High School and into my college years.  CCM artists really get railed on by critics in the secular side of music, which is truly unfortunate, because there are a lot of really talented singer/songwriters and bands within the genre of Contemporary Christian Music.  TobyMac has always been my favorite, ever since his dc Talk days.  He's one of the most well-known producers in Nashville and is the president of a very successful record label, Gotee Records.  As with everything dc Talk did, they did it with great progression.  And with that came one of the first rappers within the Christian Music community.  Combine that with the angelic voice of Leigh Nash, formerly of the extremely successful Sixpence None the Richer, add a few jingle bells and ribbons and you've got a great unconventional Christmas jam.  Take a listen to Christmas This Year below.

Listen: September "Me & My Microphone"

Sweden will be kicking off the new year early with their after Christmas release of September's fourth studio album, Love CPR.  Hopefully the US will be able to taste this deliciousness shortly after the New Year.  As if Ace of Base (old school style) was reincarnated, Me & My Microphone is an infectious new dance jam by the bleached blonde pop star.  It's headed a bit more in the club direction than her previous release, Resuscitate Me, but nonetheless a great song.

Download: Gabriella Cilmi "Defender"

I gotta be honest... the past few days, been feeling quite uninspired and unmotivated.  Can you tell winter is here?  I'm even living in a place where the snow will never fall (though if it ever does, I'm outta here!) and the temperature rarely drops below 50 degrees.  Even still, it's nearly the end of the year and like most, I'm just exhausted.  Christmas vacation please and thank you!  And on that awkward note, download this fantastic remix of Gabriella Cilmi's Defender.  Maybe you will feel motivated to shake that fat ass of yours!  I was!

In case you missed the embedded link, DOWNLOAD the remix here.

Unconventional Christmas: Carol of the Bed Intruder.

If you don't get this, well, then you really didn't pay attention to the really important current events this year.  So hide your kids, hide your wives and hide your husbands, 'cause Santa Claus is coming to town.

Thanks to DListed for bringing this to our attention!

Listen: Biffy Clyro "Many Of Horror"

Blue October and the Foo Fighters just mated and had a baby.  Ok so I lie, but if they did it'd be Biffy Clyro.  Lovin' this track from the Scottish rock band.  Sometimes you need to get your ass outta the club and into the corn field.

Unconventional Christmas: Chris Rea "Driving Home For Christmas"

To take an iconic old fart of the 80's Christmas song and make it something groovy for today is pure skill.  Thanks to our friends over in Hollands, Keljet creates another great remix, this time of Chris Rea's Driving Home For Christmas.  Download it here.

Obsession: N-Dubz "Love.Live.Life" album

With more than 25,000+ songs in my iTunes, it takes a lot to garner my attention for more than a few minutes.  And the new N-Dubz Love Live Life album does just that.  Not only are they able to hold my attention for a few minutes, they've managed to dominate my iPod in the car, at work and at the gym.  Don't get me wrong, I've been a fan of the Dubz since I got the Against All Odds album.  My friends are probably sick of receiving texts from me like 'never met a man who didn't think with his dick' and 'bitch I am the shit that's why I live for the motha' fuckin' moment' but too effin' bad.  I'm not gonna apologize for just how great this album really is.  If Eminem suddenly became involved with a pop-dance artist, but kept his edge, he'd be N-Dubz.  Seriously Black Eyed Peas, move the-eff-ova!  N-Dubz has arrived!  Preview four of my favorite tracks below!

Diva Dish: Natalia Kills

Having spoken to Natalia Kills for nearly an hour, I've come to the conclusion that she is one of the most insightful artists of today.  Though not yet a household name, mark my words, come next spring, she will be.  With a intense drive to create the best music to our ears, Kills is passionate about what she does.  She sees her music before she even hears it.  Though the interview is nearly 46 minutes in length, after listening you will be educated on everything from Kills' image to embracing your heartbreak through dance.  Highlights of the interview include getting a glimpse of how Kills' visualizes her music, how her sound has evolved from Verbalicious a popsicle flavored like all of her ex lovers and the worldwide release of her Cherrytree Records debut album Perfectionist.  Take a listen below.  (Note: I tried to cut down this interview, but everything Kills' said was too good to cut.)

Unconventional Christmas Cover: Angus Jones does Joni Mitchell

Most people expect their spirits to be lifted during the holiday season.  But Joni Mitchell pulls you into a world of broken toys, cups of eggnog beyond their expiration date and a heap of sadness.  Take one part bluegrass and one part Ray LaMontagne and you'll get Angus Stone's cover of River.  Dare we say it but, this version even takes the cake over Sarah McLachlan.  Grab your kleenex box, you're gonna need it.

Thanks Rocky!

Leak: DJ Snake "Pressure In This Club" ft. Eva Simons

We've recently discovered this new gem of a club banger from our favorite mohawk'd lady, Eva Simons.  The house song was written by the great French DJ Snake.  No confirmation as to whether or not this will be on Eva's debut album or DJ's, but nonetheless, it's something to hold us over.

Let's Smoke All Night!

Ok, so this is a REALLY weird new (ish) offering from Liz Phair. The album is hit and miss for me, though I do appreciate her experimentation. My favorite from Funstyle, Smoke, starts out like a silly skit put to bass but then changes it completely with a super catchy chorus. Bang! Bang! sounds like something Massive Attack wishes they recorded for their Mezzanine album. Definitely worth a listen.

Flashback Friday: Mike + Mechanics "The Living Years"

One of the most widely covered and well known lyrical songs, The Living Years tells the heart wrenching relationship of Mike Rutherford of Mike & The Mechanics and his father.  You may recall that Rutherford was one of the founding members of the very successful Genesis.  Recorded in 1988, it quickly became a top ten chart hit around the world, including a four week stint at #1 in the US.  It's been recently covered by the Cast of Glee, Straight No Chaser, and second season Australian X Factor winner Altiyan Childs.  This is a must for everyone's music library, no matter the age.

Cover: Ellie Goulding does Rihanna

Damn this is good.  To take a top dance song and turn it into a beautifully orchestrated love song just gives me goosebumps!  Ellie Goulding recently covered Rihanna's Only Girl In the World and gave it her own spin.  It's that kind of cover that makes you want to wrap yourself in the electric blanket, sipping hot cocoa (perhaps spiked) by the fireplace.  De-licious!  This song is quickly becoming one of the most covered pop songs for 2010!

Download: Katelyn Clampett "All Over Again"

The funny southern bell we've come to love has offered up a free download for her Facebook & Twitter fans.  So do yourself a favor - follow Katelyn Clampett!  The singer-songwriter has given us another taste of her California Country Pop music with All Over Again.  It's a refreshing break from the autotune, dance til you drop songs currently flooding the radio.  It's a nice blend of Anna Nalick and a more rock driven Taylor Swift.  DOWNLOAD it here!

Leak: Natalia Kills "Activate My Heart" (Music Video)

Update: Cherrytree Records has confirmed that this is not the official video for Activate My Heart.  An official clip of the new video should be released next week.  Stay tuned!

Though Activate My Heart will not be included on Natalia Kills Perfectionist album, it was released as a promotional single.  It was the second single released after Zombie in April of this year.  Upon first glance, it's pretty evident that the dark pop princess was involved with the production and direction of the unreleased video.  The Robert Miles synth undertones make this song truly addictive.  Hoping this song will be included as a bonus track on Kills album debut.  Perhaps 2011 will be the year of Kills?

Thanks Weinerbrow!

Newsflash: Britney Spears New Single - Rumors Soar

We told you here first that Britney Spears new single was expected this week - however, it has been pushed.  Our sources have neither confirmed nor denied the current rumors that her new single, allegedly titled Hold It Against Me, could be dropping as early as January 3rd.  Rumor has it that not many know of the exact release date of Britney's new single and those that do had to sign legal documents disallowing them from sharing that information.  Let's not forget that Lady Gaga will also be releasing her new studio album next year - which is complete - and no release date has yet been set.  Sounds to me Jive Records is playing it smart and ready for the competition to begin.  Will 2011 be the year of Lady Gaga or Britney?

Unconventional Christmas: Jersey Shore Christmas Wish

Nothing warms my heart more for the holidays then the true meaning of Christmas.  The words that J Randall sings in Santa Gimme are so life changing - and sung with such sincerity, it may have you down on your knees.  Why can't everyone be this honest for Christmas?  Consider this video and song the Jersey Shore's prayer for Christmas.  I wonder if Snookie did his makeup?  I dunno about the Ho Ho Ho's but it definitely gave me the Ha Ha Ha's!

Download: Cee Lo Green "F**K You!"

Direct from Scotland, Sonikross & Johnny Frenetic have done the remix world justice with their saucy version of Cee Lo Green's viral international hit Fuck You!.  DOWNLOAD it here.

Alesha Dixon is Turning Up the Radio - Live!

Two things about Alesha Dixon's performance from the 5:19 Show.  One, she sounds incredible live - no lip-syncing here.  And two, always have back up vocalists who sound worse than you - she needs to replace these guys because they almost ruined Radio for me.

...ok maybe three things.. she also looks stellar!

PSA: Presented by Peter Chow

Justin Bieber, this is for you.

Listen: Kandi "Leroy Jones"

By far my favorite of all of the Housewives, Kandi is well known for her success with bands like TLC and Destiny's Child.  A former member of the girl Hip Hop/R&B group Xscape, Kandi is a Grammy award winning songwriter.  She also penned Pink's There You Go for her debut album.  And now she's releasing her sophomore album of solo material next week, Kandi Koated.  Though hard to compete with the current Top 40 dance filled tracks, Kandi's new material is truly soulful and showcases her strong voice.  Her first single Leave U debuted at #89 on the Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip Hop song charts, not exactly a chart topping hit.  In my personal opinion, Leroy Jones is the strongest song on the album - Kandi really lets go and shows her vulnerable side.  Kandi Koated may not go on to be a record breaking album, but it's definitely a solid effort from an incredibly talented singer/songwriter.  Now if only the other Housewives would wake up and realize what talent really is - and those who lack it, really need to shut up!  Kandi is currently on tour with Fantasia.

Video Premiere: Adele "Rolling In the Deep"

Adele looks simply beautiful in her video premiere of Rolling In the Deep.  Someone please get a contractor to her house stat!

21 Days of (non-traditional) Christmas!

As I've previously mentioned, I like funkified Christmas music.  And those that challenge traditional Christmas hymns and the classics are winners in my book.  Crystal Theory's Chillout Christmas album is the combination of Esthero & Mandalay (now I am gonna have to pull their album out!), a true vibe to put you into a candy cane trance.  Listen to White Christmas below.

Video Premiere: Dev "Bass Down Low" ft. The Cataracs

The last few videos I've seen lately have not been so great.  Disappointing really.  But the latest one from Dev & The Cataracs really caught my eye.  It's simple yet so freakin' clever.  And it has me falling in love with Bass Down Low even more!  The eye candy that is The Cataracs also helps keep your attention (as well as their vocals).

Natalia Kills is a "Hot Mess"

Actually, it's that other bitch in the club corner over there.  Yeah you - you're a hot mess!  Recently leaked, Hot Mess is a catchy dance jam, dark pop, with some creative dirrty lyrics, something Ke$ha would spew out.  A highlight is "bending over for the world to see your coin slot."  That really makes me giggle.  It's sure to give anyone another reason to fall in love with Natalia and a new reason to dance.  I feel as though this is Kills' U Should Know Better public service announcement.  This is the second version we've heard of Hot Mess.  We're not surprised Kills had this one redone - she is after all, a Perfectionist.  I love love love that she sings a few lines from another one of my favorite Kills' song, Free. (i look fresh in a potato sack!)

Listen: Kidneythieves - "Trypt0fanatic"

After keeping fans waiting for 6 odd years, the Kidneythieves have finally dropped a new album and it was DEFINITELY worth the wait. With their first album, Kidneythieves broke onto the alternative rock scene and quickly asserted themselves as the antithesis of the then-popular nu metal trend. Fans of dark electro, tough ladies and awesome vocals should be sure to check them out, this is the kind of edgy swagger rock that mainstream post-punk pop-influenced dance rock artists wish they could be doing (*ahem* The Killers).

Newsflash: Rihanna's 3rd Single to be S&M!

Team Rihanna has pulled Love the Way You Lie Pt. 2 from their radio push and has started to rotate S&M this morning.  This seems a smart move on their part, considering You Lie is not that danceable and lacks the flare of Eminem.  S&M should fair really well on the charts, being that the radio is still being flooded with dance beat songs.

Listen: Far East Movement "2 Is Better" ft. Natalia Kills

Good morning, hateful Monday!  Another week has begun - thank God there's good music out there to get us thru!  Our favorite gal & current Flavor of the Month has teamed up with another favorite Cherry Tree artist, Far East Movement, and leaked this club thumper.  2 Is Better was not included on their first major studio album Free Wired but was released as a single back in 2009 and originally recorded with  rappers Lil Eddie & Ya Boy.  Of course, we're biast and feel that the original does not compare to the bite Natalia Kills adds to the new version.  They need to release this as a single.  Whatdya think?

TGIF: Chris Salvatore "It Gets Better" (remix)

Ready for the weekend?  I know it's December and a lot of people start to get lazy, cozy and stay indoors on a Friday night (though that's typically me no matter what the weather), but before you fall asleep watching reruns of the Golden Girls again, give yourself a little time to dance off those extra calories you gained from Turkey Day with Chris Salvatore's It Gets Better.  Though not afraid to get naked for the camera, Chris is more than a pretty face (though it does help).  He's got an incredible voice and fills that void we continually find missing in the male pop scene.  Listen to the Carlos Gallardo We Party Remix below.  Mark Salling who?

Watch: Adele's World Premiere of ''Rolling in the Deep''

Are words even necessary for this amazing performance?  Adele is flawless!

Baby, it's Cold(play) Outside

Christmas is definitely one of my favorite holidays.  However, I'm just not that into the typical & standard Christmas songs.  How many different artists can sing Oh Holy Night before it will drive me to Oh Holy Shit! Another one?!  I've got a lot more respect for those artists putting out original material for the Holiday season.  It prevents me from stabbing my eyes out with a candy cane.  (Not that I could ever really cause self-harm but you get the point.)  At any rate, Coldplay has released a new single entitled Christmas Lights.  It's warm, it's soft and it's even a little cheesy - but that's ok - I was born in Wisconsin and I like cheese.  Take a look/listen at the video below!  Happy Chanukah!

Watch: The Ting Tings "Hands" - acoustic mix

Now here's something we don't hear very often.  The Ting Tings recently did an acoustic version of their latest single Hands.  As they've explained to their audience many times, they just don't get slow often.  The incredibly rhythmic duo has not yet given us a release date on their new material for Kunst, their upcoming sophomore album.  With Hands not really rising on the charts (debuted at 29 in the UK), perhaps the British duo are waiting to drop another smash hit comparable to their catchy That's Not My Name.  Check out the beautiful acoustic version below.

Thanks to Rocky & Mark for letting me know about this!

Listen & Download: Patrick Stump "Spotlight" (2 versions)

Name ring a bell?  No?  Oh come on... Patrick Stump!  The former lead singer to the ever so popular Fall Out Boy, Stump has two versions of his first single Spotlight, and he wants his fans to choose which one to release.  His Oh Nostalgia version is in true Fall Out Boy form (and to me, more friendly for radio play & Wonky Pop's vote).  I'm assuming New Regrets is the direction Stump has headed with his first solo project- a bit more electronic, more dance-driven.  You know, more of a Postal Service meets Kesha kinda sound.  I'd go for the New Regrets version myself, but it seems like it needs a bit more umpf.  (Maybe crank up that bass a bit!)  Which version do you prefer?  Vote here and help Stump decide.  DOWNLOAD both versions here.

Oh Nostalgia

New Regrets

Video Premiere: Natalia Kills "Mirrors"

It's finally here!  The video premiere of the amazing Natalia Kills Mirrors.  Comparisons to Lady Gaga will most definitely cease after watching this.  Check it out!

Katy Redeems Herself

I love me some Katy Perry but sometimes her live performances are a little lacking. Not so in her recent rendition of Firework at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. She sounds and looks amazing!

Also, check out this great unreleased track from Katy, Nothing Like the First Time.
