I Heart Katy Perry!

I was able to see Katy Perry last night in concert for the first time on her headling "Hello Katy" tour, at the Fillmore in San Francisco. She was incredible. A total performer and surprisingly, sounded really good live (I had my doubts from previous youtube videos I had seen of her). In honor of KP and the amazing night.... and to all those Hot N Cold boys out in the world, here's "Hot N Cold." Also, her newest single, "Thinking of You" has hit the airwaves...video below!

Chills down your spine with this love

If you haven't heard of Adele by now, you're living under a rock. Her smashing hit "Chasing Pavements," has brought her critical acclaim. Her entire "19" album is filled with amazing ballads & truly showcase this gem's voice. But on the Bob Dylan classic, "To Make You Feel My Love," her voice really shines. Soft piano & strings in the background and just her voice... I get chills everytime I listen to this song. Many have covered this song, including Billy Joel & Garth Brooks, but I think many would agree Adele hits home with this cover.

Be sure to check out Mike Boogie's remix of the song. It has a serious chill-vibe to it. You can also download most of Adele's "19" songs, remixed by Mick Boogie, to 1990's hip hop.

Dance around this hump day!

I have to bring up the idea of Alphabeat once more to those of you who don't know about this incredible band.... I have the fortunate opportunity to see them tonight opening for Katy Perry in San Francisco. I am excited to see Katy but have to admit, I'm more anxious to see Alphabeat than the famous I Kissed a Girl! Does this song make you think of anything starring Kevin Bacon? :)

Under my Gay Umbrella

This video is weird as hell, but this cover is great. In 2007, the most re-done song was Rhianna's "Umbrella." Here is Vanilla Sky's version of the smash hit.

1997 was a time for Foolish Games

Over a decade ago, Jewel introduced us to the beautiful, heartbreaking ballad of "Foolish Games." I was so obsessed with this song, and completely crazed by the piano composition. I still am a huge fan of Jewel & I highly recommend everyone to give her new country album, "Perfectly Clear," a listen. Available for DL is the song "Feels Like Cheating" from her latest album.

By far, We the Living is a totally underestimated band. I have loved their Heights of Heavens album for quite some time. "History" is one of my favorite songs on that album. Below is a live taping of "History," from a concert back in February of 2008.

Pink's latest single from her FunHouse album is "Please Don't Leave Me." Love this song - love her voice. Cannot wait for her to tour in the US this late Spring! Also below is the song for DL. Though rumor has it, Corey Hart has since moved back in with Pink, this song still has great lyrics.

I discovered the Puppini Sisters about a year ago and thoroughly enjoy them. They have done a great rendition of Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" - high swing energy- so fun! Pink is a true Angel

This year's AMA's had the great presence of both P!nk & Sarah McLachlan, together on Sarah's hit "Angel." I saw Sarah McLachlan a few years back when she performed one show for her Wintersong Christmas album in NYC, and I was so mesmerized by her angelic voice. Now you add that with P!nk's raspy voice, and you have a truly magical song. I saw this video back when it first made it to youtube, but I wanted to share it with those of you who have yet to hear it.

If I were a real boy

Beyonce released "If I Were a Boy" just before the new year, and it has had great success. However, most don't realize one of the co-writers behind the song is a beautiful, 21 year old blond rocker chick named BC Jean. BC Jean is the original performer of Beyonce's smash hit, a Billboard Hot 100 Top Ten performer for nine weeks running.

This beautiful Cali girl is a natural born artist. Writing and co-writing everything she does. An organic lyricist with a pop-rock vibe and an incredible voice. Her authentic rasp/rock sound makes her a distinguishable artist unlike anyone on the scene. She is now gigging with her new band and it is a show you are going to want to see! Da this is making me blue, so thank you!

A friend of mine on Facebook triggered my memory today about this classic song from 1982 by the German group, Trio. "Da Da Da" was actually a hit in 1997, in more than 30 countries. It just reminds me that sometimes, a musician or a band can score a hit (maybe just a one hit wonder) with very little effort.

Now, don't get me wrong... I love Natalie Merchant.... but this song used to irritate the shit out of me. "Kind and Generous"

And who could ever forget Eifle 65? Sadly, I own both albums! There are some good dance beats on the albums.... but man, the lead singer's voice is so effing annoying! One of my friends in college once mentioned to me, "Doesn't the chorus sound like 'I'm blue & I will beat off a guy?'" Ugh- thanks for ruining this amazing song for me Ryan!

Phil Collins Got SOUL

Sometimes an old classic can be re-done with new style & justice....and Naturally 7 does this amazingly well with their a Capella styling of "Feel It (In the Air Tonight)". I've never been a huge fan of Phil Collins apart from Genesis, but I do like this song.... and this remade version is amazing.

I just discovered this band in 2009 but they have albums & a history dating back to 1999. The origins of the group date back to New York City in 1999 when Roger Thomas started the group with his brother, Warren, and five other talented singers they had come to know over the years from singing around the city. Having been in and out of several traditional male groups over the years, Roger developed an affinity for a cappella sounds and a unique ability to create distinct harmony arrangements. When invited to sing at a major a cappella competition in New York, they won the competition, moved onto the nationals and took away two more wins.

Riding the wave of this newfound success and still unable to decide if Naturally 7 were ging to be an a cappella group or a traditional band, Roger had a novel idea: they could be both.

I don't think these guys have yet reached the masses, but being an a Capella group, that could be a challenge. Though, Boyz II Men did it!

I've also included Extreme's hit song "More Than Words," done in a Capella by N7. Amazing!

Magic Markers, Skin on Skin & Bumblebeez

I just discovered this band from another music blog website, just because the name caught me off gaurd when the advertisement pop up went by.. I have to say, the following music video is QUITE strange but the beat is so fantastic. It keeps your body movin'

From Wikipedia...
The Bumblebeez (also known as Bumblebeez 81[1]) is an Australian hip-hop/rock band of the mid-2000s. Their first album is titled The Printz, although this is simply a compilation for an international release, comprising all the tracks from their first two Australian EPs The White Printz and The Red Printz (known to fans as the Printz saga).

Remember that band, The Darkness? The 80's hair-styled skinny ass dudes who tried to rock our world with "I Believe In a Thing Called Love"? Well take the falsetto out of the blender and add in some old school Weezer, and you've got the band Built By Snow. Check out "All The Weird Kids Know" on my playlist- a great single! This video is a bit odd (to say the least) but the tune is decent.

Spice Girls move on over.... these girls can SING.

The Brits continue to produce girl groups consisting of five woman. This time though, this group can really sing. The album, "Chasing Lights" is quite fun and frisky and there are a few ballads such as "Issues" that really showcase the girls voices. Pussycat Dolls in the US are definitely known for their dance hits... but without Nichole Scherzinger, they might just be a bunch of girls, shaking their asses on stage. The Saturdays, as a whole, all contain some vocal talent and I applaud them. Their debut album was released in July of 2008 in the UK but not one single has even made its way to iTunes in the States. You can find The Saturdays "Chasing Lights" album on legalsounds.com

A voice that is bound to make your heart melt....

Newer to the scene, Erin McCarley has been featured on such shows as One Tree Hill, Kyle X & Grey's Anatomy. She is that voice that I cannot keep my ears from- sultry jazz, with a sweet tone that could make me grin from ear to ear. In comparison to those such as Sarah Bareilles, Regina Spektor and even a touch of Sheryl Crow, this girl is going to open with a big act someday soon and bam, just like Sarah B, will become a big hit. I hope she keeps her roots and continues to produce such acoustical treasures such as this one, Lovestick Mistake.

Sneaky Sound System is another group I discovered from seeing them listed on Wikipedia's definition of Wonky Pop bands. They have a truly unique groove.... think Groove Armada meets the Disco era... and a slight scoop of the '80s. This is happy, groove music that makes anyone get off their ass and dance. This Sneaky treasure will soon become an outspoken sensation!

On a side note, her song "Sober" from her last album should have most definitely been a single. Sad to see Clive Davis drop the ball on that one!

Alphabeat "What Is Happening" - soon to tour with Katy Perry

This has become one of my biggest obsessions lately and their CD is still not released in the US. It's a total 80's inspired mix, with a fresh pop sound! Alphabeat is also the inspiration for this blog- theyTheir CD may not be out yet in the US but you can purchase their CD on www.legalsounds.com one of the best resources close to iTunes! Email me for more info on this amazing website!

A little about Alphabeat, from Wikipedia:

Alphabeat is a Danish pop band from Silkeborg signed to Copenhagen Records in Denmark. Their debut single "Fascination" was a major hit in Denmark during the summer of 2007 and a significant hit in the UK in 2008. A second single, "10.000 Nights of Thunder" (or just "10,000 Nights" in the UK) saw equal success, and their eponymous debut album went platinum in Denmark, and their subsequent single "Boyfriend" was released to great acclaim in the UK.

Their sound is mainly retro 80s melodic pop, taking inspiration, amongst others, from Deacon Blue and Prefab Sprout, with distinctive overlay of male and female harmonies.

Their native success attracted the attention of several major labels from larger markets abroad, and Alphabeat were eventually signed to EMI's Charisma Records label in the United Kingdom. Their British debut single, "Fantastic 6", was released on 26 November 2007. Several popular British publications have praised Alphabeat including NME,The Observer Music Monthly[1], Digital Spy[2] and Popjustice.[3]

The band was offered to play as a warm-up for the Spice Girls during their reunion world tour 2007-8, but declined the offer, feeling that it would be "too weird" to suddenly play in front of a very large audience unfamiliar with the band's music.[4][5]

They will be playing select shows with American singer Katy Perry on her 2008 world tour.

Alphabeat performed at T in the Park 2008 on "Camper's Friday"[6] and were recently announced in the line-up of the 2008 Roskilde Festival.[7] They also performed at the "Summerfestival" in Klaksvik, Faroe Islands, in early August 2008[8] and also in October 2008 along with many other bands at the NEC in Birmingham for hundreds of young girlguides.[9]

R&B singer Kelly Rowland said in an interview that she would love to collaborate with the band. [10]

The band was previously named Sodastar but this was changed to avoid confusion with a German band. [11]

They have often been associated with the Wonky Pop movement - having played the Wonky Pop Tour and DJd various Wonky Pop events. They are currently penned to play the Wonky Pop Xmas party in London.

On 20th December 2008, it was announced via press release that the band had been dropped by their UK label Charisma Records, despite a Top 10 album and 3 Top 20 singles. In a statement from the band on January 19th 2009 it was confirmed that they had chosen to leave the label after being given the opportunity and were signing with a new label in the UK for the release of their as yet unrecorded second album. They also stated that they were hoping to release said record in 2009

It is believed that Alphabeat are going to provide the soundtrack to famous Danish speedway rider Peter Juul's exploits at his 2009 team, Glasgow Tigers.
